My prom dress was a Gunne Sax. It was black taffeta, a fitted strapless classic sweetheart (a size 4 taken in even more thank you) and had a huge bow bustle that was actually like a train or tails. It was $44 from Parisian and fabulous! I remember stepping out of the limo feeling like a movie star with my BFF and our “dates” to the surprise of many who were shocked to see me in anything other than boys Levi’s and my white hightop Reeboks. Why yes, yes it WAS 1988. My hair was big. And fly. And Le Hairspray de Aqua net was our perfume.
Today’s prom is so much more, not only is it that same right of passage, but it has morphed into one of the most important events for many American girls to dress up for until their wedding day. From intricate braided do’s, mani & pedi’s, bling, 5″ platform heels, professional hair and make-up, and let’s not forget the designer gowns pinned on Pinterest wish boards and the extravagant very public “Promposals” the poor guys are expected to do–I agree wholeheartedly–this ain’t your mom’s prom.
But I LOVE IT. It makes me feel young again
I love the time the girls spend with their mom’s planning the perfect prom experience and I have had the best time documenting it this year for them with Glam the Dress sessions (because we all know it’s about the dress & shoes and dudes are simply the arm candy). I have 2 more prom Saturdays to host my annual Red Carpet Event at the studio. This pre-prom photo session party has been so fun for my Prom Hostesses. If you are interested in attending this year (I am almost booked up!) or next year, please contact me. My VIP Clients as well as Spokes Models are given All Access Passes to the events yearly and any time slots left over are offered to new Clients. You simply stop by the downtown studio for your 30 minute time slot booked, rock the red carpet taking all the selfies of your group you want, followed by touch ups by our professional MUA (the fabulous Lauryl Andrae from Phyxx Salon) at the Glam Bar then a mini solo/group prom photo session Magazine Style. This year’s custom designed set is a shabby Couture theme and all white…the perfect setting for all the gorgeous colorful gowns. Afterwards there is still time and some make their way downtown with their large groups for the gratuitous River-walk promenade photos complete with the parental paparazzi–but my girls are certain to have unique fabulous images of them and their crew first–rain or shine!
Please enjoy this Southern Prom styled Glam the Dress Show-reel featuring Taylor, a rising Senior at Harris County High and a GBD VIP Spokes Model. I am thrilled to feature the divine floral designs by her fabulous mother and owner of The Flower Cart in Phenix, City. I have NEVER seen such beautiful, unique bouquets before. Amazing. And please enjoy the wonderful and timely music by Mindy Gledhill of Nashville, everything she writes and sings seems perfect for this generation of young women and makes me feel like skipping and singing–don’t picture that. I am a total fangirl! Photographers, you can purchase her music at Triple Scoop Music for web use. Fans, she has a new album in the works you can pre-purchase too!
